Tell us about yourself
I left secondary school with 9 A*-C GCSEs, I then progressed to my AS Levels which were in Maths, IT, Psychology and History. I was forecast 3 A’s and 1 B. Despite this, a few months into them, I opted to change tracks and I gained a specialised IT apprenticeship incorporating Business Intelligence with Digital Native.
I love working in a small company, IT Performs, who are a specialist Business Intelligence consultancy that service a number of bluechip clients, they have built their reputation on delivering a first class customer service using excellent consultants. I have also worked for their sister company, Magzene, who are a tech start-up developing an app that delivers free magazine articles from the UK’s leading magazines directly to your iPhone. A typical day consists of checking the support website to make sure no tickets were raised the day before, then I will run the daily reports and send those off to the CEO and CTO. I will also manage all internal hardware and ensure that the other employees can do their job effectively.
What are your next steps after an apprenticeship?
My plan is to stay on at IT Performs and complete the higher apprenticeship course provided by Digital Native. Following on from my higher apprenticeship, I want to complete a degree. If I decide not to complete a degree apprenticeship with Digital Native then my industry experience and qualifications mean I will have a better chance of getting into a good University.”
What advice would you give someone considering an Apprenticeship?
I would definitely advise it. The ability to influence a company and make a real difference at only 17 is massive. I thoroughly enjoy waking up in the morning and going to work.
